It was a beautiful, sunny day in Sussex for one of the biggest Trees by the Shore tree planting events to date. Tree Canada President, Michael Rosen and President of Irving Consumer Products, Robert Irving assisted over one hundred volunteers in planting roughly 1,600 trees in an outstanding community effort to help restore the riparian areas along the Kenebecasis River.
“Along with offering shade to the river and therefore luring species of fish that need cold water, the trees will also help slow down the erosion that is happening along the river banks.” said Michael Rosen. He said the roots of the trees bind the soil together and discourages erosion.

Just outside of Saskatoon in Chappell Marsh, something special took place on June 9th. Students and volunteers from the surrounding community joined MAJESTA and Tree Canada during a Trees by the Shore tree planting event to plant over 1,100 trees, helping develop the riparian areas. As well, the students from Hugh Cairns V.C. Public School received an extended lesson on the importance of biodiversity in our environment, and even had a chance to build their very own birdhouses.

As MAJESTA and Tree Canada’s Trees by the Shore tree planting program continues its Canadian tour, it stopped off in Genesee, Alberta to plant 1,500 trees with volunteers from the surrounding community. The little town had so much community pride, News Advertiser picked up the story.

May 15th was a big day for MAJESTA and Tree Canada as the 2010 tree planting season officially kicked off in Cantley, Quebec.
Juno award winning musician David Usher, the spokesperson for Trees by the Shore, was on hand at the event to lend his support and even plant a few trees himself.
"It's very tangible," he said. "You get your hands dirty. You can see the results right away. We are planting 1,600 trees today." Usher also said the program is admirable because it encourages people to get involved and help better their community. [Ottawa Citizen, May 16, 2010]
